The Bayou Horseshoe Pitchers Association hosted its Doubles for Dollars Horseshoe Tournament Saturday at Kemper Williams Park near Patterson. Tournament winners were, in no particular order, Al Dodson of Morgan City and Junior McCowin of Bastrop, first place; Mary Begnaud of Lacassine and Cheryl Matte of Lake Charles, second place; Linda Dodson and Travis Bourdier of Patterson, third place; and Pat Pertuit of Marrero and Chris Rogers of Morgan City,fourth place. The tournament was a blind draw, team 90 percent handicap, count all format. The top two places in each class advanced to the finals in a four-way round robin to determine tournament champion.
First place, Pat Pertuit, Marrero and Chris Rogers, Morgan City, 5 wins-1 loss, 35.33 ringer percentage; second place, Mary Begnaud, Lacassine and Cheryl Matt, Lake Charles, 4-2, 31.33; and third place, Tim Gilmore, Bayou Vista and Ron Smith, Lake Charles, 3-2, 33.33.
After being tied, Pertuit/Rogers defeated Begnaud/Matt in a 50-shoe playoff to determine class champion.
First, Al Dodson, Morgan Cityand Jr. McCowin, Bastrop, 5-0, 36.8; second, Linda Dodson, Morgan City and Travis Bourdier, Patterson, 3½-1½, 32.4; and third, Dudley Michel, Bayou Vista and Edie Corso, Destrehan, 2-3, 40.8.
First, Al Dodson and Jr. McCowin, 4-1, 40.8; second, Mary Begnaud and Cheryl Matt, 3-2, 31.6; third, Linda Dodson and Travis Bourdier, 2-3, 31.2; and fourth place, Pat Pertuit and Chris Rogers, 0-3, 27.3.
After regulation play in the championship round, a 3-way tie was in play. Another 50-shoe round robin was played with Dodson/McCowin winning their two games and being declared Tournament Champions.
