PHS, CCHS win local hoops contests Tues.

The Patterson Lumberjacks held off the Morgan City Tigers for a 62-58 victory in Morgan City Tuesday.
While Patterson led 54-46 after three periods of play, Morgan City outscored its rivals 12-8 in the final period. However, it wasn’t enough to secure the victory.
Early on, Patterson held a 14-12 lead after a quarter, and the Lumberjacks led 30-28 at halftime.
Patterson extended its lead in the third quarter after outscoring Morgan City 24-18 in the period.
Tyrone Tillman led three Lumberjacks in double figures with 21 points. Other Patterson scorers were Elijah Williams, 16; Kai Schexnayder, 12; K.J. Paul, five; and Randy Paul Jr. and Ty Walton, four each.
Morgan City made 10 three-pointers in the loss, four of those by Nylan Francis and three more by Shemar Narrve.
Francis led Morgan City with 25 points. Other Morgan City scorers were Devonta Grogan, eight; Leo Garret, seven; Lorenzo Johnson, four; Tylan Bennet, three; and Elijah Singleton, two.
Morgan City (5-4) will return to action Thursday when it begins play in H.L. Bourgeois’ tournament at 7:30 p.m. against the host squad.
Patterson (5-4) will participate in Fontainebleau’s tournament, which begins Wednesday.
CCHS defeats Berwick
Central Catholic defeated Berwick 72-43 in Berwick Tuesday.
Central Catholic led 22-10 after a quarter, 41-20 at halftime and 57-34 after three periods of play.
D.J. Lewis led four Eagles in double figures with 19 points. Other Central Catholic scorers were Tyler Smith and Taylor Blanchard, 15 each; Damondrick Blackburn, 11; Davidyione Bias, five; Michael-Anthony Hill, four; and Vernon Singleton, three.
Blain Louviere led Berwick with 17 points. Other Berwick scorers were Dayton Clark, 11; Brannon Chasson and Keyon Singleton, three each; Jamerson Williams and Isaaiah Williams, two each; and George Boston, one.
Berwick (2-3) will return to action Friday when it hosts Highland Baptist.
Central Catholic (4-3) won’t hit the court again until it opens play next week in Patterson’s tournament.
