Patterson and CCHS to play in 2nd-round games Thursday
Patterson and Central Catholic High schools will continue postseason volleyball action Thursday as they compete in Division IV and V regional round action, respectively.
Patterson, Division IV’s No. 19 seed, will travel to face No. 3 seed Pope John Paul II at 5:30 p.m. in Slidell, while Central Catholic, Division V’s No. 2 seed, will host No. 15 Ascension Christian at 5:30 p.m.

Patterson vs. Pope John Paul II
The Patterson Lumberjills (15-10) ended one streak on Wednesday evening and will be looking to break another streak Thursday evening.
Wednesday, Patterson snapped No. 14 Fisher’s 13-game winning streak by defeating the squad in straight sets on the road by scores of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-21.
Thursday, Patterson will face a Pope John Paul II squad that is a Louisiana powerhouse and has made the state tournament six straight years, with four straight championships from 2014 to 2017.
This year is Patterson’s third-straight playoff appearance.
With Wednesday’s playoff victory, Patterson has won three straight contests to end the season.
Pope John Paul II (30-7) enters the contest with a 30-7 overall record and finished 5-0 in District 4-IV play this season.
The squad defeated No. 30 Baker 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-8) in first-round action Wednesday.
Wednesday was the Jaguars’ second-straight victory.
Patterson and Pope John Paul II each have a common opponent this season, Lafayette Christian Academy. Each team lost to the Lady Knights.
Central Catholic vs.
After cruising through the first-round of the playoffs Wednesday, Central Catholic will host No. 15 Ascension Christian in Division V regional-round action Thursday looking for its second consecutive victory.
Central Catholic (29-10) won its first-round contest against No. 31 South Plaquemines 3-0 (25-2, 25-8, 25-7).
Its next opponent, Ascension Christian (10-14), is Division V’s No. 15 seed and advanced to the second round after defeating No. 18 False River 3-0 (25-20, 25-8, 25-14) in first-round action Tuesday.
Ascension Christian snapped a two-game losing streak with Tuesday’s first-round playoff victory.
The squad finished this season with a 4-4 mark in District 3-V play, good enough for third place.
Central Catholic and Ascension Christian have four common opponents: Ascension Catholic, Highland Baptist, Lutcher and St. John. Central Catholic defeated all of them, including Ascension Catholic, Lutcher and St. John all two times. Ascension Christian fell to all of them, including Ascension Catholic and St. John twice.
