Morgan City Lady Tigers defeat Westgate 46-40
Morgan City High School defeated Westgate High School 46-40 in girls’ basketball action in New Iberia Tuesday.
While Morgan City led 14-10 after a quarter, Westgate outscored the visitors 17-11 in the second period for a 27-25 halftime advantage.
Morgan City retook the lead after three quarters, outscoring Westgate 9-4 in the period for a 34-31 lead, while in the fourth, Morgan City held a 12-9 scoring advantage.
Sh’Diamond Holly led Morgan City with 23 points, while Haylie Crappell also reached double figures with 10. Other Morgan City scorers were Nikeisha Paddio and Deryon Johnson, four each; India Richardson and Iesha Huntley, two; and Mariah Pleasant, one.
Morgan City will return to action Wednesday when it meets Berwick at 3:15 p.m. in first-day action at Hanson’s Holiday Classic.
St. John defeats
St. John defeated Berwick 61-42 in Berwick Tuesday in girls’ basketball action.
Madison Carline led Berwick with 25 points, while Madison Billiot also reached double figures with 10. Other Berwick scorers were Ariana Jones, five, and Lauren Skinner, two.
Berwick will return to action Wednesday when it meets Morgan City at 3:15 p.m. in first-day action at Hanson’s Holiday Classic.
CCHS falls to
Vermilion Catholic defeated Central Catholic 44-34 in Morgan City Monday.
Aaliyah Poole led Central Catholic with 24 points. Other Central Catholic scorers were Yani Johnson, six; Laurielle Bias, three; and Jalaysia Bertrand, one.
Central Catholic will return to action Wednesday when it meets St. Thomas More at 4:45 p.m. in first-day action at Hanson’s Holiday Classic.
Patterson finishes 1-2
The Patterson Lumberjills finished 1-2 this weekend in Ascension Episcopal’s tournament.
Patterson fell to Ascension Episcopal 29-25 Friday and lost to Opelousas 51-23 Saturday. The Lumberjills defeated Loreauville 42-27 Saturday.
Patterson returns to action Thursday when it travels to face Franklin.
The Morgan City Tigers defeated Centerville 60-57 in Morgan City Monday.
Morgan City led 19-17 after a quarter, 36-33 at halftime and 51-43 after three periods of play.
Morgan City hit seven three-pointers in the victory.
Nylan Francis led three Tigers in double figures with 16 points. Other Morgan City scorers were Jared Singleton, 13; Devonta Grogan, 10; Tyland Boatman, eight; Deondre Grogan, seven; and Kerwin Francois, six.
Morgan City will return to action Thursday when it begins play in New Iberia’s tournament.
The annual Core Physical Therapy and Sports Performance Lumberjack Invitational will begin Thursday and continue through Saturday at Patterson High School.
In addition to the host team, other participants are: Ellender, Jeanerette, South Lafourche, Berwick, Central Catholic, St. Martinville and South Terrebonne.
Local action Thursday features South Lafourche facing Berwick at 5 p.m., Central Catholic meeting St. Martinville at 6:30 p.m. and South Terrebonne facing Patterson at 8 p.m.
Friday, the area slate features Central Catholic meeting South Terrebonne at 6:30 p.m. and South Lafourche facing Patterson at 8 p.m.
Saturday’s area games feature Ellender meeting Central Catholic at 11:30 a.m., St. Martinville playing Patterson at 1 p.m. and South Terrebonne and Berwick squaring off at 2:30 p.m.
