Morgan City to host White Castle Friday

Morgan City will host White Castle Friday in week two football action.
Both teams will be looking for their first win of the season as Morgan City fell to Berwick 39-0 a week ago, while White Castle fell to Central Lafourche 56-36.
In its week 1 loss, White Castle totaled 374 yards of offense, with 215 of that coming through the air from quarterback Javier Batiste. Batiste threw three touchdowns, while on the ground, he rushed for 138 yards and two more touchdowns.
Morgan City Coach Chris Stroud said that White Castle played well against Central Lafourche.
“They’re a very formidable opponent,” Stroud said. “I would love to say because they’re a 1A school and they got a lot of kids going both ways we should do well in the fourth quarter, but we still have kids going both ways, so it’s going to be tough again.”
Jabez Allen had a 53-yard touchdown reception for White Castle, while Keith Landry had a 13-yard touchdown catch and a 52-yard reception for a score.
In addition to Batiste and running back Marcus Williams, Stroud said Allen and receiver Alex Brown are solid.
“Probably just as good as any receivers we’ll see in district all year,” he said. “They’re the real deal. They’re fast. They go up for the ball. They run good routes. They block well on the perimeter.”
A week ago, Morgan City trailed 7-0 after the first quarter, but Berwick scored three touchdowns in about a four-minute span for a 26-0 lead in the second quarter. The Panthers won the game 39-0 in Morgan City.
Morgan City had 33 yards of offense — 24 rushing and nine passing.
However, the Tigers lost 84 of their rushing yards on errant snaps from the center to the quarterback.
On the ground, Treyveon Francois led Morgan City’s rushers with four carries for 40 yards.
Devonta Grogan recorded six rushes for 26 yards. He had an 11-yard catch, too.
Quarterback Khai Hartley completed 2 of 9 passes for 9 yards with an interception.
