MCHS falls to Westgate 62-57

The Morgan City Tigers fell to Westgate 62-57 at Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche Thursday.
Devonta Grogan led three Morgan City Tigers in double figures with 14 points. Other Morgan City scorers were Nylan Francis, 11; Tyland Boatman, 10; Tylan Bennet and Lorenzo Johnson, eight each; Leo Garret, four; and Jaquan Gray, two.
Morgan City hit eight three-pointers.
Morgan City (3-3) will return to action Friday when it meets Houma Christian at 5 p.m. The Tigers will conclude the tournament Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. contest against West St. Mary.
Patterson falls in
double OT
The Patterson Lumberjacks fell to H.L. Bourgeois 78-75 in double overtime in first-day action at the Jordan Mills Spur 70 Shootout, Assumption High’s tournament.
No individual stats were available.
Patterson (3-3) will return to action Friday when it faces Assumption at 3:30 p.m.
CCHS falls to Ellender
Central Catholic fell to Ellender 55-54 on a buzzer-beater in first-day action at the Jordan Mills Spur 70 Shootout, Assumption High’s tournament.
Central Catholic climbed its way back into the game after a 31-20 halftime deficit and led late before Ellender hit the game-winner.
Trailing by 11 at halftime, Central Catholic outscored Ellender 14-4 in the third period to cut its deficit to 35-34 heading into the fourth period. Each team scored 20 points in the final period.
Early on, Ellender led 14-13 after a period of play before the Patriots outscored Central Catholic 17-7 in the second period.
Tyler Smith led four Eagles in double figures with 17 points. Other Central Catholic scorers were Taylor Blanchard, 15, and D.J. Lewis and Damondrick Blackburn with 11 each.
Central Catholic (3-1) will return to action in the tournament Friday at 5 p.m. when it meets South Lafourche.
Berwick falls
to Westminster
The Berwick Panthers fell to Westminster Christian 49-44 at Berwick Thursday.
While the first and second quarters were basically even with the Panthers leading 22-21 at halftime, Westminster outscored Berwick 10-2 in the third period for a 31-24 lead.
Berwick outscored Westminster 20-18 in the final period, but it wasn’t enough for the win.
Dayton Clark led Berwick with 20 points, while Blain Louviere scored 14.
The Panthers (1-1) will return to action this weekend at Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche. Berwick will meet Covenant Christian at 3:30 p.m. Friday and will play Centerville Saturday at 9 a.m.
MCHS Lady Tigers win
The Morgan City Lady Tigers defeated Jeanerette 53-30 on the road Thursday.
No individual stats were available.
Morgan City (2-4) will return to action Friday when it hosts Westgate at 6 p.m.
Berwick Lady
Panthers fall
The Berwick Lady Panthers fell to Westminster Christian 47-39 in Berwick Thursday.
No individual stats were available.
Berwick (2-3) will return to action Monday when it hosts Ascension Catholic at 5:30 p.m.
Patterson girls
game rescheduled
The first day of action at Centerville’s girls basketball tournament was cancelled, and the tournament was rescheduled for Friday and Saturday with changes.
Patterson now will meet West St. Mary at 3 p.m. Friday and will play Centerville Saturday at 9 a.m.
Berwick was scheduled to participate in the tournament but has withdrawn.
