MCHS falls to Franklin 61-40

The Morgan City Tigers fell to Franklin 61-40 at home Friday in nondistrict action.
Shemar Naverre led Morgan City with 12 points. Other Morgan City scorers were Nylan Francis, nine; Leo Garrett, eight; Taaj Delaune, five; and Elijah Singleton, Logan Linston and Jaquan Gray, two each.
Morgan City will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face New Iberia in nondistrict action. Junior varsity action is set for a 5:15 p.m. start with varsity set for a 7 p.m. tip.
Berwick defeats
Hanson
The Berwick Panthers defeated the Hanson Memorial Tigers 51-28 in Franklin Friday.
Berwick led 9-6 after a quarter, outscored Hanson 17-11 in the second period for a 26-17 halftime lead and added scoring advantages of 11-9 in the third period and 14-3 in the final quarter for the final score.
Blain Louviere led Berwick with 15 points and four steals. Other top Berwick contributors were George Boston, six points, eight rebounds and five blocks, and Chris Jones, three points and 11 rebounds.
Berwick will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Centerville in nondistrict action. Boys’ varsity action will follow the girls’ varsity game, which is set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
Patterson splits
weekend games
The Patterson Lumberjacks split their weekend games at Central Catholic’s tournament with a win Friday against Denham Springs and an overtime loss to Terrebonne Saturday.
Against Denham Springs, Patterson won 51-44.
The Lumberjacks led 20-13 after a quarter, outscored Denham Springs 7-6 in the second period for a 27-19 lead, and Denham Springs responded with 12-9 third-quarter scoring advantage to cut its deficit to 36-31. Patterson edged the Yellow Jacks 15-13 in the scoring column in the final period for the final score.
Kyler Paul led three Lumberjacks in double figures with 16 points. Other Patterson scorers were Tyrone Tillman, 14; Elijah Williams, 10; Randy Paul Jr., six; and Louis Jones, Tylon Walton and James Gash, two each.
Saturday, Patterson fell to Terrebonne 53-52 in overtime.
No individual stats were submitted.
Patterson will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Ellender. Junior varsity action is set for a 5:30 p.m. start with varsity to follow at 7 p.m.
CCHS drops
two games
The Central Catholic Eagles dropped two games at its tournament this weekend, falling to Lutcher Friday and Denham Springs Saturday.
Friday, Central Catholic fell 50-47 after Lutcher hit the game-winning three-pointer from the top of the key with a little more than two seconds remaining.
The shot concluded a 16-3 scoring advantage in the quarter for the Bulldogs, who entered the final period down 44-34.
Early on, Central Catholic led 16-14 after a quarter, and the home squad extended its lead to 31-28 at halftime. Central Catholic extended its lead in the third quarter as it outscored Lutcher 13-6.
Taylor Blanchard led Central Catholic with 13 points. Other Central Catholic scorers were Tyler Smith, nine; D.J. Lewis, seven; Demondrick Blackburn and Kye Morgel, six each; Michael-Anthony Hill, four; and Davidyione Bias, two.
Saturday, Central Catholic fell to Denham Springs 39-36.
While Central Catholic led 28-24 entering the final period, Denham Springs outscored Central Catholic 15-8 in the final period.
Early on, Central Catholic led 13-10 after a quarter, while Denham Spring outscored the home squad 8-6 in the second period to cut its deficit to 19-18.
Blackburn led Central Catholic with nine points. Other Central Catholic scorers were Lewis and Morgel, six each, and Smith, Blanchard and Bias, five points each.
Thursday, Central Catholic opened play in the tournament with a 59-58 loss to Terrebonne.
Terrebonne hit the game-winner via a three-pointer from half court with 1.8 seconds left.
Terrebonne, which trailed 43-41 entering the final period, outscored Central Catholic 18-15 in the fourth.
Early on, Central Catholic led 15-12 after a period before Terrebonne outscored it 17-13 in the second period for a 29-28 halftime lead. Central Catholic outscored Terrebonne 15-12 in the third period.
Smith led Central Catholic with 13 points. Other Central Catholic scorers were: Blanchard and Bias, 12 each; Lewis, nine; Blackburn, seven; Morgel, three; and Hill, two.
Central Catholic will return to action Tuesday when it travels to Donaldsonville to meet Ascension Catholic.
Lady Panthers fall
to Hanson
The Berwick Lady Panthers fell to Hanson Memorial 42-26 in Franklin Friday.
Lay Bertrand led Berwick with 16 points. Other Berwick scorers were Arianna Jones, five; Lilly Eues, three; and Casey Crowe, two.
Berwick will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Centerville in a 5:30 p.m. contest.
