Lutcher cruises past Berwick
The Lutcher Bulldogs cruised past the Berwick Panthers, 49-6, in District 9-3A play in Lutcher Friday.
Lutcher (3-4 overall, 1-1 in district) led 14-0 after a quarter, 28-3 at halftime and 42-6 after three periods of play.
Lutcher quarterback Mekhi Patterson threw four touchdowns and rushed for another.
His touchdown throws went to Zack Poche, Rasohn Williams, D’Wanye’ Winfield and Daequan Bowser.
Patterson completed 17 of 23 passes for 225 yards with four touchdowns and one interception.
Williams was his leading receiver with seven catches for 113 yards and a score.
Meanwhile, Rasuan Storkes and Cleveland Parquette each added touchdown runs.
Storkes led the Bulldogs’ ground game with 10 carries for 156 yards and a score, while Parquette had three carries for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Lutcher totaled 519 yards of offense (242 passing and 277 rushing).
Berwick’s two scores came via Seth Canty field goals.
Canty connected on a 27-yard field goal in the second quarter to make the score 28-3, and he started the game’s scoring in the third period with a 41-yard field goal to cut Berwick’s deficit to 28-6.
The Panthers (3-4, 1-1) were limited to just 121 yards of offense (62 yards passing and 59 yards rushing).
Reed Gonzales completed 5 of 17 passes for 62 yards for Berwick, while his leading receiver was Canty with two receptions for 32 yards.
Keyon Singleton led Berwick’s ground game with 17 carries for 45 yards.
Berwick will continue District 9-3A action this week when it travels to take on St. James Friday. St. James is ranked No. 1 in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A poll.
