CCHS' Yani Johnson earns honorable mention All-State status
The Central Catholic High School girls’ basketball team had one honorable mention selection on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A All-State team.
The Lady Eagles’ sophomore Yani Johnson earned the recognition.
Central Catholic girls basketball coach Cory Brodie said Johnson has a chance to finish her days at Central Catholic as one of the best all-around athletes like ex-basketball stars Meo Knight and Randi Brown were.
“She’s done a better job of growing up and keeping her composure and being a leader at such a young age,” he said.
Brodie called her “as athletic as she is hard working.”
Megan Abrams of Division IV state champion Lafayette Christian Academy, which competes in Central Catholic’s district, was the Class 1A Most Valuable Player, while Emily Anderson of Class 1A state champion Delhi is the Coach of the Year.
Other representatives from District 7-1A, Central Catholic’s league, to earn honorable mention status were Casey Fitzgerald of Hanson and Jay Demouchet of Vermilion Catholic.
