CCHS, Patterson win first-round playoff games
The No. 2 Central Catholic Lady Eagles defeated No. 31 South Plaquemines 3-0 (25-2, 25-8, 25-7) in Division V first-round playoff action Wednesday in Morgan City.
Yani Johnson and Katie Luc led Central Catholic. Johnson had 13 kills and two blocks, while Luc recorded 21 assists. Other top Central Catholic contributors were Ava Nicar, 10 kills and two digs; Katie Hoffpauir, four aces and 10 assists; and Lexi Landry, four kills and six aces.
Central Catholic (29-10) will return to action Thursday in regional-round action when it hosts No. 15 Ascension Christian at 5:30 p.m.
Patterson defeats Fisher
The No. 19 Patterson Lumberjills took the long trip to No. 14 Fisher High School and came home with a victory in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-14, 25-21 in Division IV first-round volleyball playoff action Wednesday.
“My girls made me proud last night,” Patterson coach Chasity Toups said. “We played the way I knew we could. My senior leadership was phenomenal, and I couldn’t be happier with the way they handled themselves.”
Gabby Marcel, Briyanna Butler and Emma Marin led Patterson (15-10). Marcel had two aces, 19 kills and two assists, while Butler recorded eight aces, 14 kills, four digs and one block. Marin recorded one ace, one kill and 26 assists.
Other top Patterson contributors were Deja Dugar, two digs and 11 assists; Alyssa Perkins, eight kills; and Nyla Alexander, one ace and five kills.
Patterson (15-10) will return to action Thursday when it travels to face Louisiana volleyball power and No. 3 seed Pope John Paul II in a 5:30 p.m. contest in Slidell.
MCHS falls to Brusly
The No. 14 Morgan City Lady Tigers’ season came to an end Wednesday as the squad fell to No. 19 Brusly 3-1 (25-18, 12-25, 25-16, 25-19) in Division III first-round playoff action.
Morgan City coach Christy Theriot said her team made “too many errors” in the loss.
Jamia Francois and Tia Estay led Morgan City’s offense. Francois had two aces, 12 kills, one solo block, one block assist, two digs and two assists, while Estay recorded one kill, 24 assists and six digs.
Other top Morgan City contributors were Faith Bailey, two aces, seven kills, one block assist, four digs and one assist; Haylie Crappell, five kills, 11 digs and one assist; Brynn Stephens, one kill, two assists and 10 digs; Kamryn Olivier, one assist and seven digs; Mariah Pleasant, five kills and three digs; and Hailey Aucoin, one ace and six digs.
Morgan City finishes its season with a 12-21 record.
to St. Michael
The No. 25 seed Berwick Lady Panthers fell to No. 8 St. Michael the Archangel 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-6) in Division III first-round action Wednesday in Baton Rouge.
No individual stats were submitted.
Berwick finishes its season with a 10-19 record.
