CCHS falls to Assumption at Smoothie King Center
The Central Catholic Eagles fell to the Assumption Mustangs 59-31 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans Saturday evening.
Central Catholic fell behind early, trailing 13-5 after a quarter and 33-8 at halftime. The Eagles outscored the Mustangs in the third period to cut their deficit to 41-25 after three quarters, but Assumption came back with a 17-6 fourth-quarter scoring advantage.
Taylor Blanchard and Demondrick Blackburn led Central Catholic with nine points apiece. Other Central Catholic scorers were as follows: Tyler Smith and D.J. Lewis, four each; Vernon Singleton and Kye Morgel, two apiece; and Davidyione Bias, one.
Friday, Central Catholic fell to South Terrebonne 74-72 in triple overtime.
Blanchard led four Eagles in double figures with 22 points. Other Central Catholic scorers were as follows: Bias, 16; Lewis, 14; Smith, 13; and Blackburn, seven.
Central Catholic (8-11) will return to action Monday when it begins District 8-1A action at Centerville in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
Patterson tops MCHS
The Patterson Lumberjacks defeated the Morgan City Tigers 68-59 in nondistrict action at Patterson Friday.
Patterson broke open a close game by outscoring Morgan City 25-16 in the final period.
The teams traded the lead at the conclusion of the first two quarters as Morgan City led 17-16 after a quarter before Patterson took a 27-26 halftime advantage. Patterson and Morgan City entered the fourth quarter tied at 43.
Elijah Williams led three Lumberjacks in double figures with 18 points. Other Patterson scorers were as follows: Kyler Paul, 17; Kai Schexnayder, 11; Ty Walton, nine; Tyrone Tillman and Randy Paul Jr., five each; James Gash, two; and Dillion Gunner, one.
Devonta Grogan led three Tigers in double figures with 24 points. Other Morgan City scorers were as follows: Nylan Francis, 15; Tylan Bennet, 13; and Taaj Delaune, seven.
Wednesday, Morgan City defeated Centerville 50-36 in Morgan City.
The Tigers outscored Centerville in every quarter, taking a 13-9 lead after a quarter, a 25-18 halftime advantage and a 36-24 lead after three quarters.
Francis and Delaune led the Tigers with 11 points apiece. Other Morgan City scorers were as follows: Grogan, nine; Logan Linston, six; Bennett and Jaquan Gray, four each; Shemar Naverre, three; and Jamal Francois, two.
Morgan City (7-12) will return to action Tuesday when it opens District 8-4A action at home against Ellender at 7 p.m.
Patterson (15-9) will return to action Monday when it meets Southern Lab in nondistrict action at the Martin Luther King Classic at Baton Rouge Community College at 4 p.m.
