Berwick to host Eunice this weekend best-of-3 series
The Berwick High School Panthers will look to qualify for the Allstate Sugar Bowl/Louisiana High School Athletic Association Baseball State Tournament when it hosts Eunice this weekend in a best-of-three quarterfinal series.
Berwick (25-8) enters the series ranked No. 4 in Class 3A, while Eunice (29-8) is ranked No. 5.
The teams will meet Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at noon. An if-necessary game is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Panthers’ road to the quarterfinal series includes three straight run-rule victories. The Panthers run-ruled No. 29 Peabody 12-0 in five innings in bi-district round action before routing No. 13 Jennings 10-0 in five innings and 13-1 in six innings in last week’s regional series.
Berwick, which enters the quarterfinals on a three-game winning streak, has outscored its opponents 35-1.
Meanwhile, Eunice run-ruled Avoyelles, 15-5, in bi-district action before taking a best-of-three regional series against No. 12 North Vermilion. The Bobcats won that series in two games with a 12-2 victory in six innings and a 6-2 win.
Eunice has outscored its playoff opponents a combined 33-9.
Eunice finished second in District 5-3A this year with a 12-2 mark and had won 18 straight games before dropping a district series to Iota just before the end of the regular season. The Bulldogs won the district title are ranked No. 3 in the postseason, playing in another quarterfinal this weekend.
