Area teams fall in weekend tourney play
The Patterson Lumberjacks finished 1-2 at St. Martinville Senior High School’s Holiday Shootout last week.
Patterson opened the tournament Thursday with a 66-60 win against Alexandria, who is ranked No. 5 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 5A power rankings, before falling in overtime to Peabody, Class 4A’s top-ranked squad, 78-76 Friday. Saturday, Patterson fell to St. Martinville 71-46.
Against Alexandria, Patterson, which led after the first quarter and at halftime, was outscored 18-9 in the third period and trailed 50-46 heading into the fourth quarter. However, Patterson outscored Alexandria 20-10 in the final period.
Early on, Patterson led 17-15 after a quarter, and the Lumberjacks led 37-32 at halftime.
Elijah Williams led five Lumberjacks in double figures with 15 points. Other Patterson scorers were Tyrone Tillman, Kai Schexnayder and Tylon Walton with 12 each; Kyler Paul, 11; and Randy Paul and James Gash, two each.
Against Peabody, Williams led three Lumberjacks in double figures with 29 points. Other Patterson scorers were Schexnayder, 24; Paul, 12; Tillman, seven; and Ty Walton, four.
No individual stats were available from Patterson’s contest against St. Martinville.
In the last week’s win against Westgate, Paul had a double-double with 21 points and 10 assists along with six rebounds.
Patterson (10-8) will return to action Thursday when it begins play in Central Catholic’s tournament in 6:30 p.m. contest against South Terrebonne.
CCHS goes 0-2
The Central Catholic Eagles finished the weekend 0-2 at E.D. White’s Cardinal Classic as they fell to H.L. Bourgeois Friday and E.D. White Saturday.
Friday, the Eagles fell to H.L. Bourgeois 64-62.
While Central Catholic led after the first three quarters with leads of 19-16, 28-25 and 51-50, respectively, H.L. Bourgeois outscored Central Catholic 14-11 in the final period for the win.
D.J. Lewis led four Eagles in double figures with 16 points. Other Central Catholic scorers were Tyler Smith and Taylor Blanchard, 13 each; Damondrick Blackburn, 10; Davidyione Bias, eight; and Michael-Anthony Hill, two.
Saturday, Central Catholic fell to E.D. White 70-60.
E.D. White led 19-13 after a quarter, took a 38-28 lead into halftime and led 49-46 heading into the final period.
Bias led four Eagles in double figures with 17 points. Other Central Catholic scorers were Blackburn, 12; Lewis and Kye Morgel, 11 each; Smith, five; and Blanchard, four.
Central Catholic (6-5) will conclude the tournament Monday with a 6 p.m. contest against South Lafourche.
Berwick is winless
The Berwick Panthers dropped both games at North Vermilion’s tournament this weekend, falling to Delcambre Friday and losing to Gueydan Saturday.
Friday, Berwick fell 57-38 to Delcambre.
Blain Louviere led Berwick with 13 points, while Dayton Clark scored 11.
Saturday, Berwick fell to Gueydan 38-36.
Seth Canty led Berwick with 16 points, while Louviere scored 13.
Berwick (3-8) will return to action Friday when it travels to face Hanson Memorial.
