MCHS alum Richard records 2nd straight double-double
Morgan City High alum Makye Richard recorded double-doubles in his last two games for Xavier University of Louisiana, most recently, in Monday’s 81-50 win over Southern University of New Orleans.
Richard had 14 points and 12 rebounds as well as six assists and four steals in Monday’s Gulf Coast Athletic Conference victory.
Just two days earlier on Saturday, he had 12 points and 10 rebounds in Xavier’s 99-75 victory against Dillard in the Crosstown Classic in New Orleans in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action. He added two assists, one block and one steal in the win.
This season, he has per-game averages of 11 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.4 blocks.
Below is a look at the feats of other area alumni from weekend action:
Morgan City High alum and Nicholls sophomore Kennedy Hebert had another productive tournament this past weekend at the Madeira Beach Tournament in Madeira Beach, Florida.
In Friday’s 4-2 victory against Purdue, Hebert finished 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Later Friday in a 2-1 loss to Butler in eight innings, Hebert finished 1-for-3.
Sunday, Hebert finished 2-for-4 in a 7-5 loss to Southern Illinois before concluding the tournament with a 2-for-3 performance with a home run, an RBI and a run scored in Nicholls’ 4-3 victory against Mercer.
This season, Hebert is batting .419 with 13 hits, including one double and four home runs. She has six RBIs, a .839 slugging percentage, has stolen one base and has scored eight runs. She leads the Colonels in batting average, hits, home runs, slugging percentage and runs scored.
On defense, she has a perfect fielding percentage with 19 put outs.
Central Catholic High alum and Delta State sophomore Taylor Picou had a pair of multi-hit performances among her stats this weekend in the team’s Gulf South Conference opening series in Huntsville, Alabama against the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
In the squad’s 7-4 loss Saturday, Picou finished 2-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and two runs scored.
In the second game of the doubleheader, a 21-7 loss Saturday, Picou finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored.
In Sunday’s finale, a 9-1 loss, Picou finished 1-for-1 with a run scored.
This season, Picou is batting .345 with 10 hits, including three doubles and one home run. She also has three RBIs and has scored seven runs. She leads the team in batting average, runs scored and hits and is tied for the team lead in doubles and home runs.
In the field, Picou has a .977 fielding percentage with 33 put outs and 10 assists. She has helped turn three double plays.
Central Catholic High alum and Fort Hays State sophomore Drake Angeron collected three hits in four games this weekend, including his first home run of the season, in the squad’s series with New Mexico Highlands in Hays, Kansas.
In Friday’s 10-0 victory in seven innings, Angeron finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.
In the first game of a doubleheader Saturday, Angeron scored a run in Fort Hays State’s 4-2 win, while in game two, he had a 1-for-4 performance with a home run, an RBI and two runs.
In Sunday’s 7-6 victory, Angeron finished with a stolen base and a run scored.
This season, Angeron is batting .255 with 12 hits including a home run. He has seven RBIs, has scored 11 runs and is 12 of 13 in stolen base attempts. He leads the team in stolen bases.
In the field, he has a .960 fielding percentage with 24 put outs in 25 chances.
Patterson alum Jamey Fabre recorded two hits this weekend in Alcorn State University games at the Andre Dawson Tournament in New Orleans.
In Saturday’s 8-3 loss to Southern, the junior finished 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Sunday, Fabre finished 1-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run in Alcorn State’s 13-7 win against Arkansas Pine-Bluff.
This season, Fabre is batting .143 with one run, two hits (both doubles) and three RBIs. He leads the team in doubles.
Defensively, he has a perfect fielding percentage with 22 put outs and one assist in 23 chances. He has helped turn three double plays.
Morgan City High alum and Southwest Mississippi Community College sophomore Scottie Metrejean began her season this weekend at the Sun Chief Classic in Orange Beach, Alabama.
In Friday’s 9-8 loss to Coastal Alabama-Bay Minette, Metrejean finished 2-for-4 with a run.
In Saturday’s 10-2 victory against Coastal Alabama-Brewton, Metrejean finished 1-for-1 with a double, an RBI and a run.
This season, Metrejean is batting .333 with three hits, including a double. She has one RBI and has scored two runs.
On defense, she has an .857 fielding percentage with 18 put outs in 21 total chances.
Shawn Long recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds in Melbourne United’s 109-90 victory against South East Melbourne Phoenix Sunday in Melbourne, Australia.
He also had one steal and one block in the win.
Long led the team in rebounds and tied for the team lead in blocks.
This season, Long has per-game averages of 18.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, one assist, one steal and 1.2 blocks.
Patterson High alum and Wiley College senior Taylan Grogan tied for the team lead in scoring in the squad’s 75-73 Red River Athletic Conference loss to the University of the Southwest (New Mexico) in Hobbs, New Mexico Saturday
Grogan recorded 15 points and one steal.
This season, Grogan has per-game averages of 25.9 points, 3.1 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.4 blocks.
Berwick High alum and Millsaps College’s Jordan Lipari continued her junior season this weekend.
In the squad’s 5-4 loss to Our Lady of the Lake University Sunday in San Antonio, Texas, Lipari finished 1-for-4.
This season, Lipari is batting .222 with four hits, including a double. She has three RBIs and has scored three runs.
In the field, she has a perfect fielding percentage with seven put outs.
Berwick High alum and LSU freshman Mitchell Sanford scored a run each in LSU’s 8-1 win against Indiana Friday and its 7-4 victory against Indiana Saturday in Baton Rouge.
