Autin hits safely in three straight games for BRCC

The Baton Rouge Community College Lady Bears drop two games to the Pearl River Lady Wildcats Tuesday at Oak Villa Park in Baton Rouge.
The Lady Bears rallied in game one but came up short 6-5. In game two, it was all Pearl River from start, with it defeating the Lady Bears 14-0 in five innings.
In game one, Pearl River scored first with a run in the first and two runs in the second to take a 3-0 lead after two innings.
Baton Rouge scored two runs in the third inning to close the gap to 3-2. Blayne Pence led off the inning with a home run to center field. Payge Hebert scored the Lady Bears’ second run.
The Lady Wildcats responded with a run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 6-2 after five innings.
The Lady Bears began their rally in the sixth with one run and finished just short with two runs in the seventh. In the sixth, Courtney Ortego reached on an error, advanced to second on another error and reached third on a sacrifice bunt by Lauren Price. She scored on a Pence sacrifice fly to center field.
In the seventh, the Lady Bears started the inning with singles by Haleigh Laylle and Savanna Orgeron. Laylle scored on passed ball, Orgeron advance to third on a single by Krystal Stubbs and scored on the next play with an error by Pearl River. The Lady Bears’ rally ended on a Price ground out to the third basemen.
Rylee Swilley earned the win. In 1.2 innings, she allowed two runs on three hits.
Kelsey Cifreo suffered the loss. She pitched seven innings and allowed six runs on 11 hits.
Offensively, Pence led Baton Rouge Community College with a 2-for-3 performance with a run and two RBIs. Other top Lady Bears contributors were Laylle and Orgeron, each 2-for-4 with a run; and Central Catholic alum Hallie Autin, 1-for-4.
In game two, Pearl River used two big innings to defeat Baton Rouge 14-0 in five innings.
Pearl River scored three runs in the second, one run in the third and 10 in the fourth. The Lady Bears struggled at the plate with only two hits. Each team committed two errors.
Krista Robles earned the victory. She pitched five innings and allowed just two hits.
Bailey Duhon suffered the loss. In three innings, she allowed eight runs on five hits. Cifreo pitched two innings in relief
Cori Breaux led Baton Rouge Community College with a 1-for-2 day on offense, while Autin was 1-for-3.
Saturday in Wesson, Mississippi, Baton Rouge Community College faced Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Spoon River College.
In a 9-2 loss to Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Autin finished 1-for-4, while she finished 3-for-3 with a triple, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs in a 17-1 win in five innings against Spoon River College.
The Lady Bears will return to action Friday as they take on the Co-Lin Lady Wolves in a double header starting at 2 p.m. at the Central Sports Complex in Baton Rouge.
