Wreck delays traffic
BERWICK, La. — Two injuries were reported in an early morning crash that backed up eastbound U.S. 90 traffic for about an hour.
The 6:20 a.m. crash occurred at the intersection of Thorguson Road and U.S. 90.
A 2006 Honda, driven by Carroll LaFleur Jr., 39, of Berwick was traveling south on Thorguson Road and crossed the highway on a red light, Berwick Police Chief James Richard said.
The Honda was struck by a 1996 Ford pickup truck driven by Lawrence Edwards, 47, of Patterson that was heading eastbound on U.S. 90. The truck flipped over from the impact, Richard said.
Edwards was treated and released with minor injuries, while LaFleur remained in the emergency room at Teche Regional Medical Center at 11 a.m. undergoing treatment, hospital spokeswoman Sabrina Roy said.
LaFleur was cited for careless operation, Richard said.
The Berwick Volunteer Fire Department, Morgan City rescue squad, Acadian Ambulance, St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and Berwick Police Department responded to the scene.
