Woman arrested for three counts of criminal neglect of family
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reports the following arrests.
—Heather Everage Banda, 36, of the 200 block of South Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:17 a.m. Tuesday on warrants for failure to appear on the charges of disturbing the peace and three counts criminal neglect of family. A deputy located Banda at her residence on the warrant. Banda was taken to the parish jail and held. No bail is set.
—Whitney Ann Klein, 49, of the 100 block of Pecan Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 5:42 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for theft and remaining where forbidden. A deputy responding to a complaint of a theft at a residence on Pecan Lane made contact with Klein who was wanted on the warrant. The warrant stems from an investigation into a report of theft from a retail store in Bayou Vista that occurred in July. Klein was observed leaving the store without paying for items. Klein was taken to the parish jail and held. Bail is set at $1,500.
—Lester Thomas, 39, of the 100 block of Hurst Street in Patterson, was arrested at 11:04 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for issuing worthless checks. A deputy observed a vehicle swerve over the centerline of Highway 90 in the Franklin area and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, identified as Thomas, the deputy learned of the warrant. Thomas was released on a summons to appear in court on Nov. 6.
Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch reported the following arrests:
—Heidi Clair Hoffpauir, 44, of Teche Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday for operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, hold for Patterson police, and on a warrant for two headlights required.
An officer on patrol came into contact with a vehicle driven by Hoffpauir during the investigation of a complaint regarding the vehicle which Hoffpauir possessed. Hoffpauir, after being detained was found to be operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, Crouch said. She was also found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant for Patterson Police Department for a traffic violation. She was taken to the Morgan City Police Department and released on bail.
—Theodore M. Harris, 27, of Freret Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:24 p.m. Tuesday for simple battery.
Officers received a complaint of a disturbance near the corner of Fifth Street and Brashear Avenue. Officers arrived and according to a witness, Harris committed a battery on a female at the scene and left the area, Crouch said. Officers located Harris a short time later, and he was taken to the Morgan City Police Department and released after posting cash bail.
—Patrick Franklin, 44, of Marrero, was arrested at midnight on warrants for failure to appear for battery on an officer, domestic violence, disturbing the peace intoxicated, and resisting an officer.
Franklin was surrendered to the Morgan City Police Department by a bondsman for failing to appear for trial on various charges Feb. 21, Crouch said. Franklin was taken to the Morgan City Jail where he remains pending a court appearance.
—Jason Paul Grandin, 29, of Pauline Street in Pierre Part, was arrested at 5:04 a.m. today for speeding, operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, and no insurance.
Officers patrolling La. 182 observed a vehicle speeding on La. 182. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, Grandin, was identified. Grandin was discovered to be operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.
He could not produce motor vehicle insurance, Crouch said. He was taken to the Morgan City Police Department where he remains in jail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
