West St. Mary’s Lyons double winner at Class 2A competition

BATON ROUGE — West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack Gerianna Lyons was a double winner Thursday at the LHSAA/State Farm track and field championships held at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.

Lyons captured victories in both the discus and shot put in the Class 2A track and field championships of which Hammond’s St. Thomas Aquinas and Newman of New Orleans finished in a tie for first place.

Lyons bested the field in the Class 2A competition in the discus with a throw of 104-7. She also captured first place in the shot put with a heave of 36-4 1/2.

West St. Mary’s other top finisher were Amber Joe and Sequoyia Ferguson. Joe was second in the shot put with a throw of 35-7 while Ferguson placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 15-9.

St. Thomas More and Newman won the Class 2A meet tied for first place with 45 points apiece while Calvary Baptist (41) was third with Menard fourth (36) while the West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack finished in fifth place with 35 points.

WEST ST. MARY’S JERALD HAWKINS posted a third place finish in the shot put (55-4) leading the West St. Mary Wolfpack in the Class 2A track and field championships.

John Curtis won the boys meet with a total of 87 points.
