Unrestrained teen dies in 2-car crash
IBERIA PARISH, La. --- A two-vehicle crash on La. 344 at La.677 claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl Saturday night, a Louisiana State Police Troop I news release reported today.
The initial investigation indicated that a 2003 Honda passenger car, driven by Erin LaSalle, 17, of New Iberia, was traveling east on La. 677 approaching La. 344, police report. For reasons still under investigation, LaSalle failed to stop at the two-way stop sign and began making a left turn onto La. 344. A silver 2003 Ford F-250 driven by 33-year-old Jared St. Martin of Kaplan, was traveling south on La. 344 and struck the left side of LaSalle’s vehicle, the report said.
LaSalle was unrestrained and died as a result of the crash, the news release said. She was pronounced dead by the Iberia Parish Coroner at the scene. St. Martin was not injured in the crash.
Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
