Teen arrested for armed robbery

A 16-year-old male was charged with armed robbery Sunday after he pointed a handgun at a man in Morgan City and demanded the man’s wristwatch, Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch said in a news release.

The 16-year-old male juvenile was arrested at 1:04 p.m. Sunday for armed robbery, flight from an officer, aggravated assault, on warrants for second degree battery, unauthorized entry into inhabited dwelling, criminal damage to property and two counts of simple battery.

Morgan City police responded to a call in regard to an armed robbery in the area of the Morgan City Junior High School. Officers arrived and were advised by the caller that he was approached by a black male near the school’s stadium, Crouch said.

The juvenile produced a handgun and demanded a watch worn by the complainant, he said. The victim threw the watch and fled the scene, Crouch said. Officers canvassed the area in search of the suspect and were able to locate the suspect in the area.

The juvenile then fled from officers on foot, and officers set up a perimeter and were able to capture him near Belanger Street. Investigating officers were able to locate a weapon, discovered to be an Airsoft pistol, Crouch said.

The stolen item was recovered and released back to the owner. The juvenile was also found to be wanted on outstanding warrants through the City Court of Morgan City. The juvenile was booked at the Morgan City Police Department and then taken to Assumption Parish Juvenile Detention Center pending court proceedings.
