The 10th annual “Running of the Bears,” will be Saturday, April 20 at 8 a.m. in Franklin.
The event, a 5K Fun Run/Walk is part of the 10th Annual Bear Festival, held along historic Main Street.
The 5K Fun Run will start and end in front of the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin.
The first man and lady to finish the race will each win a $100 in cash.
All proceeds from the event after expenses will benefit the Teche Action Clinic of Franklin.
Pre-registration is $20 in advance. Persons may download an entry form at http:// www.kbze.com, the website of KBZE 105.9FM, the host radio station for the race. Late registration will be $25 the day of the event, and will begin at 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
Please note that persons who pre-register for the event will be guaranteed a commemorative race T-shirt.
There is also a $15 race charge for persons who wish to enter the race, but not receive a T-shirt, Diane Freeman said. She is the race coordinator and human resources director of Teche Action Clinic.
“On race day, in addition to many other prizes, we will have a limited supply of T-shirts for race participants, however we’re asking for early entrance to the race, so everyone can be guaranteed a souvenir,” Freeman said.
Additionally, all participants will have a chance to win a family pack of four tickets to the Schlitterbahn Water Park in Galveston Texas, thanks to a donation from KBZE 105.9FM.
