Taco Bell routs Halimar Shipyard

BERWICK — Taco Bell (Berwick) routed Halimar Shipyard (Central Catholic) in both teams’ Swampland regular season finale Thursday.

Neal Theriot earned the win for Taco Bell (9-3 in Swampland play). In five innings, he surrendered an unearned run on four hits with a walk and a strikeout apiece.

Tim Shelby pitched two innings and surrendered a hit and fanned two.

At the plate, Nick Duthu led Berwick with a 2-for-4 performance with two RBIs, while Seth Legendre was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Other top contributors included Bobby Boudreaux, 2-for-3; Brooks Richard and Theriot, each 2-for-4; and Daniel Gray and Justin Morvant, each 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Charlie Barron suffered the loss for Halimar Shipyard (7-5).

At the plate, Stefano Guarisco was 1-for-2 with a double, while Matthew Barbier was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

With the win, Taco Bell finished as the No. 2 seed in the Swampland League and will therefore have a bye in the first round of the tournament, which begins Monday at Berwick High. Taco Bell, along with top seed Synergy Bank (E.D. White), will not begin play until Tuesday.

The top six seeds are taken in the tournament. The official list of teams who made the tournament will be published in Monday’s newspaper as well as more information on the tournament.

In junior varsity action Thursday, Taco Bell defeated Halimar Shipyard 5-1.

Cameron Wiley earned the win for Taco Bell. In 3.2 innings, he surrendered an earned run on two hits with a walk, and two strikeouts. He also hit two batters.

Nick Mayon earned the save.

Cody Roberie finished 1-for-1 with a run for Taco Bell, while Andrew Askew and Mayon each recorded an RBI.

Taco Bell’s junior varsity squad finished the Swampland season with an 8-5 mark.

Reeco Rental 8, Patterson 7

Reeco Rental (Thibodaux) plated a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to top Patterson Thursday in Thibodaux in Swampland League action.

While Patterson pitching had induced a two-out ground ball for what should have been the third out and allowed the local squad to secure a win in the bottom of the seventh, an error instead allowed Reeco Rental to score the tying run and force extra innings.

Bryce Beaubouef suffered the loss for Patterson, which concluded its Swampland season with a 1-10 mark.

At the plate, Blake Dreyer led Patterson with a 2-for-3 performance with a double and an RBI, while Brennan Gouaux was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Other top contributors included Kenny Singleton and Jake Lagrange, each 2-for-5; Beaubouef, 1-for-2, an RBI; Taylor Harris, 1-for-3, an RBI; and Jalalen Broussard, 1-for-4, an RBI.

Skipper’s game rained out

Skipper’s Sporting Goods’ (Morgan City) game with Robichaux Ford (Vandebilt Catholic) was rained out Thursday and will be made up Saturday at Tiger Diamond in Morgan City.

Junior varsity action will begin at 10 a.m. with varsity play to follow at noon.
