Swiftships' team wins Cypress Sawmill golf tourney
The championship team for the 2013 Wedell Williams Aviation & Cypress Sawmill Foundation Golf tournament in early April was Swiftships’ team comprised of Calvin Leleux, Jeff Leleux and Terry Dover.
Swiftships and Thibodaux Electric both carded 12 under par 60s, but Swiftships won the scorecard playoff to capture the championship title. The Thibodaux Electric team consisted of Dave Thibodaux, Wayne Loggerman and Skippy Boudreaux.
The third place team in the championship flight was Patterson State Bank. The team of Tillman Simmons, Charles Mayea and Glen Jumonville finished 11 under at 61.
The first-flight winner, with a score of 69, was team 100 Proof, made up of Jeff Kirby, Robert Avery and Jimmy Parvino. Second place in the first flight was Conrad Shipyard’s team of Jacob Naquin, James Andrews and Reed Davidson with a score of 70. Also shooting 70 and taking third place in the first flight was the Paul’s Agency team of Damon Bergeron, Dylan Bergeron and Steve Russo.
The second flight had three teams tied for first as all three shot one over par 73. Central Boats won the score card playoff to take first place, followed by Specialty Transportation and Cameron Broussard Drilling.
Jim Young, Lynn Hebert and Dana Lee played for Central Boats.
The Specialty Transportation team consisted of Brent Eckert, Gavin Callais and Darren Sonnier.
Jimmy Broussard, Wade Latiolais and Mickey Broussard played for the third place Cameron Broussard Drilling team.
Dr. Peter Abel won the long drive competition on hole 5, and Bob Brewster won closest to the hole honors on hole 11.
“This year we had 30 teams competing in beautiful weather,” said Bill Marin, tournament chairman. “We need to thank the three food and drink sponsors, Cameron Iron Works, Cannata’s and Tanks-a-lot. Also, Cameron deserves special recognition since Cameron also sponsored 6 teams for the tournament.”
“The Cypress Sawmill Golf Tournament is always set up in the same format …. no mulligans or paying to move up on par 5’s, and the players really like the fact that this is an announced ‘play by the rules’ scramble golf tournament,” Marin said. “Every year most teams let us know that they want the setup to remain in place, and we intend to do that since this is one of the most popular scramble tournaments held in our south Louisiana region.”
The Wedell Williams Aviation & Cypress Sawmill Foundation Golf Tournament is always the lead off Friday event to officially start the Patterson Cypress Sawmill Festival, held annually during the first weekend of April at Kemper Williams Park in Patterson.
