State employee charged with federal crime
BATON ROUGE (AP) — Federal prosecutors have charged the director of auditing and compliance for the state’s Department of Children and Family Services with fraud.
U.S. Attorney Walt Green said authorities alleged that 34-year-old Delrice J. Augustus, of Baton Rouge, used government money to buy a large number of items for himself, including but not limited to games, iPads, and Dyson vacuums, hotel rooms and fuel.
During the time of the alleged fraud, Green says the department was receiving more than $1 billion in federal funds, thus making Augustus eligible for federal prosecution.
He says Augustus is currently on leave from his state job.
