Boaters help Coast Guard rescue overboard shrimper

GRAND ISLE (AP) — Shrimpers and boaters have rescued a man who fell overboard without a life jacket from a shrimp boat.
The Coast Guard says the rescue happened Friday about 19 miles from Grand Isle. The unnamed man was treated by paramedics but not hospitalized.
The shrimp boat Andy & Johnny Jr. broadcast an emergency signal and the Coast Guard issued an emergency message. Another shrimp boat, a catamaran, and other boats sailed to the location and worked together to retrieve the man, with the catamaran fishing him from the water and delivering him to a Coast Guard 45-foot response boat.
The Coast Guard says its boat brought the man to Grand Isle, where he was examined by emergency medical personnel.
The Coast Guard advises boaters to always wear a life jacket.
