State Police investigating officer involved shooting in Acadia Parish

CROWLEY -- Early Saturday morning, Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon requested detectives with Louisiana State Police investigate a shooting on Leger Road south of the city limits of Crowley involving two of his deputies, according to a news release from Tfc. Stephen Hammons, Louisiana State Police Troop I Public Affairs.

The initial investigation indicates that at about 3 a.m. two deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance complaint at a residence in the 6100 block of Leger Road, the news release stated.

When deputies arrived at the scene they entered the house and James A. Trahan, 41, of Crowley, armed himself with a shotgun, the news release stated. Trahan fired at the deputies striking one of them in the leg and the deputies returned fire fatally wounding Trahan, the news release stated.

The deputy who was shot has been transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery. He is currently recovering in the hospital.

This case remains under investigation.
