In recent months, Alphonse Chaney and his daughter, Dy’Man Chaney, both of Patterson, competed in taekwondo tournaments. Alphonse Chaney competed in the Fort Worth International Taekwondo Championships on Oct. 18, and won a gold medal in sparring and a silver medal in forms. Dy’Man Chaney competed in Moon’s College Taekwondo Tournament in Metairie and won a gold medal in the forms competition. Alphonse Chaney is a 3rd Dan black belt certified through the Kukkiwon, which is the world black belt headquarters in Soeul, Korea. Central Catholic used a fourth-quarter surge to secure a 47-34 victory against Berwick in Division 1 opening round action at Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche Thursday.
