Alphonse Chaney Jr. of Patterson won gold medals in the sparring and forms competition Oct. 19 at the 33rd Fort Worth International Taekwondo Champion Tournament. Earlier this year on June 21, Chaney took first place in the individual traditional forms competition at the U.S. Open Hanmadang Taekwondo Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo. Chaney said the latter of the two tournaments is one of the biggest open taekwondo events recognized worldwide. Chaney is the assistant instructor at Screaming Eagles Taekwondo Academy in Patterson.
