Central Catholic overcomes two-day rain delay to beat Grand Lake

Central Catholic High School advanced to the Class 1A quarterfinals Monday with a 5-3 win against No. 16 Grand Lake at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Above, Central Catholic catcher Thomas Garber throws to second base to get a runner trying to steal base as part of a 9-6-2 double play as the umpire signals Grand Lake’s Alex Guillory, left, out. The double play was started via a throw from rightfielder Adam Dupuis following a single and ended on a throw to shortstop Samuel Guarisco for an out at second base. Central Catholic, Class 1A’s top seed, will return to action Thursday when it travels to face No. 9 Cedar Creek in a 6 p.m. contest in Ruston.
