Sawmill Golf Tourney looking for entrants
The 2014 version of the annual Wedell-Williams Aviation & Cypress Sawmill Museum Golf Tournament is set for April 4.
The 1 p.m. event is the kickoff function of Patterson’s annual Cypress Sawmill Festival at Kemper Williams Park near Patterson.
Atchafalaya at Idlewild is the host site for the tournament.
Tournament chairman Bill Marin is expecting a full field of 30 teams again this year. Each team will consist of three players and two teams will be paired together during tournament play.
“By having a field of 30 teams, it allows us to start the tournament with three of the par 3s open with no teams starting on those holes, and this set up is conducive to a faster-paced tournament,” Marin said.
Marin indicated that there are only three remaining openings for teams in the tournament. Anyone interested in having a team participate or a corporate sponsorship can contact Marin at Patterson State Bank, 985-395-8112, or at email@example.com. The entry fee for a team is $350.
The 2014 tournament will award prizes to the top three teams in the championship, first and second flights. There also will be an individual prize for the winners of the longest drive and closest-to-the-hole competitions.
This year’s food/drink tents will be sponsored by Cameron (Gary Chaisson), Cannata’s Supermarket (Steve Domangue), and Tanks-a-Lot (Dirk Arceneaux and AJ Cannata).
“Unlike most other scramble tournaments, our format does not allow for the sale of mulligans,” Marin said. “What we want is for all teams to play fairly and for the winning teams to earn their place in the order of finish. I get excellent reviews from our tournament players. We pay very good prize money, and our players and teams keep coming back every year because they love the competitiveness and tournament format. From the start, this tournament has always been about fair play, and all of our players know that this tournament is the closest they’ll get to true golf competition using the scramble format.”
