CCHS advances, MCHS, BHS fall

Central Catholic was the lone local prep volleyball squad to survive  the second round of the prep volleyball postseason Monday and advance to the state volleyball tournament, which begins Thursday at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner.

The Lady Eagles, the fourth seed in Division 5, defeated No. 13 seed Northside Christian 3-0 (25-10, 25-8, 25-18) and now will advance to play No. 5 seed Academy of Sacred Heart of Grand Coteau in the quarterfinals Thursday at 10:50 a.m. Sacred Heart advanced with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-7, 25-19) victory against No. 12 seed First Baptist Monday.

Elsewhere in Division 3, No. 11 seed Berwick fell to No. 6 seed St. Louis in Lake Charles 3-1 (16-25, 25-20, 20-25, 10-25) Monday. The Lady Panthers ended their season with a mark of 20-17.

Also in Division 3, No. 16 seed Morgan City fell to No. 1 seed Teurlings Catholic 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-5) in Lafayette Monday evening. The Lady Tigers conclude their season with a 13-26 record.
