Soccer teams win against South Terrebonne
MORGAN CITY, La. -- The Morgan City High boys’ and girls’ soccer teams came away with wins on their first district games of the season against South Terrebonne.
The girls’ team beat the South Terrebonne Gators, 5-0.
“The girls started the night off and had great game. The first half we controlled the game and made a lot of smart moves. We were passing like a team,” said Morgan City Coach Trevor Patterson.
The Tigers first goal came in the seventh minute.
Celeste Williams scored with a header on a pass from Carmen Araujo who got the ball off a free kick from Paige Comeaux.
Three minutes later, Ashley Rock got the ball to Williams who scored.
The half time score, Tigers 3, Gators 0.
In the 66th minute, Sarah Patterson delivered a pass to Araujo who scored.
In the 73rd minute, Patterson had another pass to Williams this time who scored to get her hat trick for the night final, Tigers 5, Gators 0.
For the boys’ game, the Tigers did not score until the second half. The Tigers scored off of a penalty kick by Daniel Alvarado in the 57th minute.
The game ended in regulation time and went into overtime.
In the ninth minute of overtime, Alvarado had a break away and went one-on-one with the goalie and scored for the win, Trevor Patterson stated. “It was a great job by the boys,” Trevor Patterson stated. “We have been haunted by some injured players including some on this night. Everyone stepped up and played a great game to get the win.”
Both teams will play second district games Thursday night at home against Ellender.
