Skipper's Swampland games moved up
From Staff Reports
Start times for Skipper’s Sporting Goods’ (Morgan City) Swampland games against Bayou Boys (South Lafourche) today and Jester’s Court (Central Lafourche) Tuesday have been moved up because repairs have not been complete after electrical problems involving a utility pole near third base at Tiger Diamond prompted officials to call Skipper’s Swampland League game in the sixth inning on Thursday.
Instead of playing junior varsity and varsity games at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, like it normally would because its facility has lights, Skippers will play jayvee and varsity games today and Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively, like the rest of the Swampland teams that play at facilities that do not have lights.
Morgan City High School Principal Mickey Fabre said wiring on the ground by the light pole at third base shorted out, melting both the wiring and the casing during the sixth inning of Skipper’s win on Thursday against Diamondbacks (Terrebonne).
It caused flames in the area and an outage of outfield lights, he said.
Fabre said school officials hope to have the repairs made by Wednesday afternoon. The squad’s next home game is a June 11 matchup with H.L. Bourgeois.
In other Swampland action today, Taco Bell (Berwick) will host Patterson, with junior varsity beginning at 5 p.m. followed by varsity at 7 p.m., while Halimar Shipyard (Central Catholic) will travel to Diamondbacks (Terrebonne) today for junior varsity and varsity games at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
