Shooting victim identified
Jazmine Jamal Jackson, 23, of 620 Anderson St., Franklin, was arrested Tuesday at 1:54 a.m., on a warrant for first degree murder.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office responded at 2:23 a.m. Monday to a 911 call of an unresponsive male subject in the roadway on La. 182 in the Sorrell area. Deputies located the subject lying in the roadway on Sorrel Bridge Approach Road just off of La. 182 in Sorrell.
The subject, now identified as 24-year-old Jarnell A. McDaniel of Franklin, was pronounced deceased by the St. Mary Parish Coroner.
Based on evidence at the scene, detectives believed McDaniel died of gunshot wounds and began an investigation into the apparent homicide.
Later in the day, detectives received information identifying Jackson as the killer. With the assistance of Franklin Police and U.S. Marshals, Jackson was located walking on Main Street in Franklin and apprehended without incident.
Detectives believe Jackson drove McDaniel to Sorrell Bridge approach road and shot him.
The investigation is ongoing.
