ROSEMARY JUNCA KEENZE

Feb. 7, 1923 ~ Jan. 11, 2013

Rosemary Junca Keenze, 89, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette, after a lengthy illness.

Rosemary was born February 7, 1923 in Bayou Sale, and was a lifelong resident of Louisiana where she made Baldwin her home for the past 56 years. She graduated from Sacred Heart College in Grand Coteau, and retired as a 3rd grade school teacher where she taught for 25 years in Charenton. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother who will be sadly missed by all.

Rosemary’s life was rich with love and generosity. As the oldest of seven siblings, she became the mother to her youngest brother, Hugh, and sister, Pat, when their mother and father passed away leaving them under Rosemary’s loving care and direction.

She was a lifelong parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charenton where she brought her family together to worship. Rosemary took great pride in her many hobbies and interests. She was an active member of both the Franklin Garden Club and the Baldwin Garden Club where she shared her passion for flowers and plants. In addition to enjoying nature, she found much pleasure in reading and belonged to the Baldwin Book Club and was a frequent visitor to the Baldwin Library. Rosemary was a true homemaker. At home you would find Rosemary busy in the kitchen baking, or working with all her needle crafts, including knitting, sewing or crocheting. She also found time to learn how to do oil painting and surrounded her home with beautiful art. Other interests included fishing, collecting bottles, antiques and volunteering as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts.

Rosemary had a zest for life and loved traveling. Summers meant a family vacation with lots of learning opportunities as they traveled from New York to California and all parts in between, including Canada and Mexico.

She was preceded in death by husband, Paul R. Keenze Jr.; her parents, Hugh A. Junca and Rosa Landry Junca; and her sister, Barbara Junca Hale.

Rosemary is survived by her children, Paul Keith (Liz) Keenze from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Sherry Keenze and James Davies and Kim (Chuck) Hidalgo from Lafayette. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Ashlee (Keith) Pearce and Jacob Hidalgo; three great grandchildren, Lane, Slayden and Keilee Pearce. Rosemary is also survived by her sisters, Myra (Jim) Smith, Norma Junca, Patricia (Frank) Minvielle; and brothers, Harold (Anne) Junca and Hugh A. Junca Jr.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Rosemary’s care givers, Sherry Carter, Donald Mae Davis, LaTrail Fontenot, Cherie Broussard and Alice Randall for all their care and concern during her illness. Special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana, Inc. in Lafayette for helping the family during this time. Also, a thank you goes to Herman Jack who was a helper for many years.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 15th at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin, from 10 a.m. until 2 pm. Following visitation, a special service led by Deacon Theo Landry from Jeanerette will take place starting with a rosary in Ibert’s Chapel.
