Program for organ, tissue donation awareness
The Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency will host “Painting with a Passion” on Nov. 9 in Metairie.
The night of fun and creativity is to raise funds and awareness for organ and tissue donation.
Being held at LOPA’s Metairie office, located at 3545 North I-10 Service Road in Suite 300, Painting with a Passion will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Participants must be 21 or older. For the $50 fee, participants get a canvas, paint, 2½ hour instructed class, wine, soft drinks and food. Guests will leave the event with a streetcar painting made personally by them.
Space is limited. To register visit www.lopa.org/painting/.
According to LOPA, Louisiana has nearly 1,800 men, women and children waiting for life-saving transplants.
Nationally, the waiting list stands at more than 112,000, and tragically, 18 people die every day while waiting.
With the public’s help, LOPA can continue to increase the national Donor Registry and decrease the number of lives lost due to the lack of organs and tissues available for transplant.
LOPA is the federally-designated organ procurement organization for the state.
The agency focuses on educating the medical community and the general public about organ and tissue donation issues, working with families through the donation process, recovering donated organs and tissue, and placing the organs and tissue for transplant.
