Phone call reporting homicide still under investigation
The 911 cell phone call reporting a possible homicide in the Harry P. Williams Airport area along the Bayou Teche last week is still under investigation and the status of the case remains the same, Traci Landry, spokeswoman for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office, said Tuesday morning.
When asked whether the sheriff’s office had been able to track the cell phone call that made the call to a person, Landry did not comment on Monday.
On Wednesday, June 19, around 6:30 a.m., seven sheriff’s deputies responded to the airport area and stopped Jim Byron of Calumet while he was on his morning walk through a cane field in Calumet.
Byron was questioned and then the deputies let him go.
The call reporting the possible homicide was “unfounded but still under investigation,” Landry said last week.
Landry said the sheriff’s office tracked the cell phone call that was made, but the office has not released any further information regarding the phone call.
