Phi Rho Omega to host Breast Cancer Awareness Brunch

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Phi Rho Omega Chapter will host its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Brunch on Oct. 29 at the Lamp Post located at 735 Main St. in Franklin.

The gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. under the direction of Brenda Paul.

For the past 15 years, members of the sorority have been educating women about breast cancer and the importance of early detection and regular mammograms.

The brunch will feature a medical professional who will speak about breast cancer risk factors, screening options, treatment options and the efficacy of each. Also to be discussed is the importance of getting to a physician immediately when any changes are detected.

Angela Champagne will give this year’s survivor testimonial. She will share her story of detection and diagnosis, her views on the relationship between nutrition and breast cancer and what lies ahead.

All guests will receive a souvenir bag containing important information from the American Cancer Society and items promoting National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Teche Action Clinic is donating free mammograms which will be awarded by random drawing.

Phi Rho Omega will have its annual “Blessing of the Shoes” during the brunch.

The brunch is a community service provided free to the public.
