Patterson man critical after wreck
A Patterson man is in critical condition after an early morning crash in Cypremort Point today.
Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on La. 83, near La. 319, which also claimed the life of a St. Martinville woman.
Clay Guillory, 35, of Patterson was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette and is reported to be in critical but stable condition late this morning.
At 12:19 a.m., 52-year-old Cynthia Rogers of St. Martinville, was driving a 2002 GMC truck south on La. 83 entering a right curve. For reasons still under investigation, Rogers drove off the left side of the road and entered a ditch which resulted in her vehicle overturning, according to Troop I Public Information Officer Stephen Hammons.
Neither Rogers nor Guillory were restrained, and both of them were ejected from the vehicle. It is unknown if impairment was a factor in this crash; however, toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Hammonds said.
This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers remind drivers and occupants of motor vehicles that state law requires everyone to be properly restrained. When properly worn, a seatbelt can greatly reduce risk of injury in most crashes. This is the fifth fatal crash Troop I has investigated this month.
