Patterson Garden Club holds meeting
Patterson Garden Club held its meeting Oct. 18 at the Patterson Area Civic Center.
Theme for the meeting was “Feathered Friends.” Guest speakers were Jim and Karla Byron, owners of La Portrait Gallery Photography in Calumet. They presented a program called “Birds of the South,” sharing J. Byron’s experience in photographing birds of the southern region. They also brought along two homing pigeons and explained how they raised and trained them.
PGC member Evelyn Estay presented a token of appreciation to the Byrons.
President Sandra Marshall presided over the meeting. The Louisiana Garden Club Federation District 3 meeting held in Morgan City was discussed.
Daisy Leblanc, Yard of the Month Committee chairperson announced that Patterson City Hall was presented with the October award.
Linda Thomas, Blue Star Marker Committee chairperson, reminded the group that the Blue Star Marker Ceremony will be held Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at Patterson City Hall.
Since PGC is an Adopt-A-School sponsor for Hattie Watts Elementary, Marshall also asked all members to join her there for a workday on Nov. 5 to spruce up flowerbeds in front of the school.
At the end of the meeting the half-and-half drawing was held and won by Leblanc.
Hostesses for the meeting were Peggy Rentrop and Ginger Griffin. Members were treated to a meal consisting of sandwiches, Swedish meatballs, seven-layer salad and dessert.
Next month’s meeting will be held Nov. 15 at 5 p.m.
