Patterson Council will meet Tuesday
Patterson lawmakers again will consider a variance request to reduce a side yard setback at 200 Enterprise Ave.
The setback, from 5 feet to 3 feet, is needed to safely construct a warehouse on the property utilizing an existing concrete slab, but the project has met with resistance from neighbors.
At last week’s Patterson Planning Commission meeting, area residents made it clear that they are against the entire proposal by Bethel Pentecostal Church to construct a children’s home and an associated warehouse on the property.
While it currently stands empty, plans for the property call for the home to one-day house children of incarcerated parents who would otherwise go into foster care. Neighbors say they know they can’t stop the entire project from being constructed, so they are trying to fight what is in front of them — in this case, the variance.
A public hearing on the variance is slated for 7 p.m., to be followed by another for a variance requesting to build an accessory use building without a main building as prescribed by the city’s zoning ordinance.
Both will be considered for final approval or denial during the regular council meeting to follow.
Also on the agenda for council consideration are:
—Introduction of ordinances related to residential occupation of campers, travel trailers and motor homes; recreational vehicle campgrounds; and amendment of zoning ordinance related to mobile home parks.
—Discussion and possible introduction of an ordinance related to parking on public streets.
—Action on the Cleco franchise ordinance.
—Discussions concerning the Franklin Harvest Moon Festival, St. Mary Red Ribbon Week and black bears.
—Consider a permit for the Patterson Project Graduation can shake.
All matters coming before the council are slated to begin at 7 p.m. and are open to the public. The meeting will be held in the council meeting room of city hall, 1314 Main St., Patterson.
