Parish schools to reopen Friday
By JEAN L. KAESS
Multiple school closures continue in the wake of Tropical Storm Isaac.
St. Mary Parish public schools will be open Friday unless a particular school does not have power or suffered significant damage.
This primarily applies to Centerville and Franklin area schools because of power outages.
To determine if a particular school is open, check the school system website for a list of closures at www.stmary.k12.la.us.
As of today, Central Catholic High School is scheduled to be open, and it is to be a Red Day. Holy Cross Elementary School also was to be open.
All campuses of South Central Louisiana Technical College, including the Young Memorial Campus in Morgan City, will remain closed Friday.
Elsewhere, Nicholls State University will resume classes Tuesday. The campus remains closed today although facilities, grounds and custodial staff are to report to work at noon to begin assessment and prepare the campus for opening on Friday morning.
University offices will reopen at 8 a.m. Friday. Staff members who are unable to report to work Friday should contact their supervisors.
Students who cannot return to class on Tuesday due to hardship should contact their instructors through Moodle or email. If students do not have access to the Internet, they are asked to call the Nicholls Advising Center at 985-448-4117 and leave their name, N-number, contact phone number and their anticipated return-to-school date.
Regarding fee payments, refund percentages will be pushed back five class days. They will be based on the fourth class day being Tuesday rather than Monday. The new 14th class day will be Sept. 18 rather than Sept. 10. An updated academic calendar will be released as soon as possible.
Also, Fletcher Technical Community College in Houma will be closed Friday. The campus will resume normal operation and classes Tuesday, following the Labor Day holiday.
