Port focuses on dredging waterways

Officials began a dredging demonstration last week in the Atchafalaya River Bar Channel. Pictured is the Dredge Newport discharging fluid mud back into the channel after dredging. The goal of the demonstration is find a way to keep the channel dredged to 20 feet year round and keep the fluid mud, or fluff, in suspension. (Submitted)

Port of Morgan City leaders say they are relieved to have a roughly one-mile section of the Atchafalaya River dredged and back open to vessel traffic.
