Motorcyclist kiilled in crash

ST. MARTIN PARISH -- Troopers with Louisiana State Police investigated a two-vehicle crash on La. 31 north of Poche Bridge Road which claimed the life of a Breaux Bridge man Monday, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police.

Ahortly before 9 a.m., 29-year-old Coby Champagne of St. Martinville, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet truck south on La. 31 when a piece of tin fell out of his truck, police stated. As Champagne was slowing down, his vehicle was struck from behind by a 1998 Honda motorcycle, driven by 52-year-old Bobby Sutton Sr. of Breaux Bridge, the report stated.

Sutton, who was wearing a helmet but did not have a motorcycle endorsement, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Martin Parish coroner, the report stated.

Champagne was not injured in the crash.'

It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, police stated.

The crash remains under investigation.
