Mosquito contract among parish council agenda items
Items on Wednesday’s meeting agenda of the St. Mary Parish Council include a recommendation by the administration on a new contract for mosquito abatement services.
The recommendation is to be based on a request for quotes called for in November.
Mosquito Control Contractors Inc. of New Iberia has held the contract with the parish for several years.
Other items on the agenda include:
—Resolutions on a grant application on the construction of a new chlorine storage facility at Water and Sewer Commission 4’s water plant; in support of the St. Mary Community Action Agency Head Start program; congratulations to Dr. Melvin Bourgeois on his selection as president of the state’s Board of Medical Examiners; endorsement of participation in the Enterprise Zone program by LAPCO Manufacturing, Inc.; authorization for Clarissa Adams, Claire House acting program director, to negotiate a contract with Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals; in support of the continued operation of the Morgan City Downtown Post Office; in support of the 2012 Coastal Master Plan as long as adequate flood protection measures are in place; and a contract on a Disaster Recovery Community Development Block Grant on phase 3 of the Martin Luther King Boulevard reconstruction project in Morgan City.
—A request by Nicky Begnaud of the Krewe of Cypremort Sippers to waive the open container law during the krewe’s Mardi Gras parade on Feb. 18.
—An annual funding request by the Save Our Children Mentoring program in the amount of $25,000.
—A request of funding by Councilman Glen Hidalgo, District 4, not to exceed $50,000 of which $25,0000 shall be from the Wards 5 and 8 three-tenths percent sales tax fund to Sub-Gravity Drainage District 1 of Drainage District 2 toward construction of the Opperman Road Drainage Canal project for the new Plantation Inn Drainage Pump Station.
—Guest appearances by Diane Wiltz and Jackie Ackel on a presentation on behalf of the MADD Chapter; and the Rev. Craig A. Mathews and District 1 Leadership Team on a program summary and financial analysis of the district’s Community Programs Fund.
—Consideration of appointments to various boards and commissions.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. on the fifth floor of the courthouse in Franklin.
