Morgan City sets T-ball, baseball sign-ups

The Morgan City Recreation Department has set registration and tryout dates and times for its T-ball and baseball leagues.
Registration will begin Monday and continue until March 16 at the recreation office, 915 Everett St., Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office will be closed daily from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
Those who wish to signup for T-ball must be 5 years old by May 1 and cannot turn 7 years old until after April 30 of this year.
Minor League participants is open to any youth who will be 7 years old by May 1 and who will not turn 9 years old until after April 30.
City League is open to those who will be 9 years old by May 1 but will not turn 11 years old until after April 30.
Dixie League play is open to athletes who will be 11 years old by May 1 and will not turn 13 years old until after April 30.
Fees for each league are $40 for one participant per family. A second participant in a family will pay $25 and a third will pay $15. No family will be charged more than $80 in registration fees.
Tryouts, which are only for those who have not played before or are moving up to a new age group, will be held March 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Norman Park for Minor League participants. City and Dixie leagues will hold its tryouts on March 20 and 21, respectively, at 5:30 p.m. both days at Norman Park.
Softball registration information will be coming at a later date.
Elsewhere, local youth baseball and softball sign-ups are ongoing in Patterson, Berwick, Bayou Vista, Amelia and Bayou L’Ourse.
In Patterson, sign-ups for baseball, softball and T-ball will be held through today and again March 5-8 at the Patterson Area Civic Center. Sign-ups will be taken from 5-7 p.m.
Tryouts for baseball will be held March 12, while softball tryouts will be held March 19, both at 6 p.m. at Kemper Williams Park near Patterson.
Opening ceremonies will he held March 24 and will feature a baseball tournament and a fundraiser raffle.
In Berwick and Bayou Vista, St. Mary Central Dixie Youth baseball sign-ups will begin Monday and continue each weeknight through March 8. Sign-ups will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Berwick Civic Complex.
To be eligible, youngsters must be 5 years of age on May 1 and no older than 12 on April 30.
Registration will be $30 per child and $20 for additional children from the same family.
Tryouts will be held March 10.
A coaches’ meeting will be held Monday at the Berwick Civic Center at 7 p.m. for anyone wishing to coach in the league.
Berwick/Bayou Vista girls’ Youth Softball League registration will continue until today, 5-7 p.m., at the Berwick Civic Complex. Forms also can be dropped off at Berwick Town Hall.

In Amelia, baseball, softball and T-ball callouts will be held at the Amelia Recreation Center for youngsters in Amelia.
Registration is being held through Tuesday at the recreation department, 8 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Those ages 4 to 6 will participate in T-ball, while boys ages 7-15 will participate in baseball, and girls of the same age will participate in softball.

Also, the Bayou L’Ourse Athletic Association will hold registration Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Bayou L’Ourse Ball Park. Umpires and coaches are needed, while boys ages 2-15 and girls’ ages 2-18 are invited to participate.
Boys and girls in ages 2 to 6 will participate in T-ball, while boys, ages 7-15 and girls, ages 7-18 are invited to play baseball and softball, respectively.
Also, the Teche Tigers 11U baseball team will hold open tryouts Friday at Complex Park in Morgan City.
Those trying out for the squad must be 11 years old or younger on May 1.
Tryouts will be held at 6 p.m. at the park, located on Victor II Boulevard.
Former Morgan City High School baseball coach Tim Hymel will coach the squad.
