Morgan City man arrested in fatal shooting (updated)
MORGAN CITY — Police have arrested a suspect for second degree murder in the shooting death of a 23-year-old Morgan City man, Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch stated in a news release.
Justin Edward Patterson, 24, of Front Street in Morgan City, was arrested and charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of Mikki Jay Dauntain, 23, of Morgan City, Crouch stated. Police originally reported Patterson’s address as Franklin Street in Morgan City.
Dauntain was shot in the area of Garber Street and Federal Avenue in Morgan City. Dauntain later died at Teche Regional Medical Center. Evidence was uncovered which implicated Patterson, also known as “Grippa," as the perpetrator, Crouch stated.
Patterson later turned himself in to the Morgan City Police Department where he was questioned and charged with the homicide, Crouch stated.
Patterson was also found to have been previously convicted on a narcotics violation and prohibited from possessing a firearm.
The area which the shooting occurred was within 1,000 feet of an elementary school.
Patterson was booked into the Morgan City Jail for the charges of second degree murder; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm within a gun free zone.
