Morgan City and Central Catholic participated in jamboree action
From Staff Reports
While rain had its way with the Morgan City High School varsity baseball jamboree, Morgan City and Central Catholic High schools still managed to get in a jamboree game — against each other.
Both local squads squared off in the Assumption Jamboree and played to a 2-2 tie.
Morgan City jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning but Central Catholic rallied in the final inning, the third, to even the score.
“The team had a good showing in the jamboree,” MCHS coach Kelly Jo Aucoin said. “We are working on improving in areas.”
Amber Bailey and Katelyn Adams both led Morgan City with 2-for-2 performances at the plate. Bailey also added a stolen base and a run.
Other MCHS players making the stat sheet included Brandi Ingram, 1-for-2; Nikki Pennison, one RBI and a sacrifice; Shannon Theriot, one run and two walks; Marilynn Bailey, a sacrifice; and Taylor Prince, a walk.
Aucoin said her squad is becoming more patient at the plate and their defense is starting to come together.
On the mound, Tyler Hebert recorded one strikeout and surrendered three hits.
“Tyler Hebert did a good job on the mound,” Aucoin said. “She is becoming more consistent with her pitches.”
For CCHS, Brittany Longman pitched 1.3 innings and surrendered two earned runs on three hits with three walks and one strikeout.
Meagan Landry also pitched 1.2 innings and allowed two hits and struck out one.
At the plate, Kimberly Russo led CCHS with two hits, one run and a stolen base, while Amanda Barron added a double and a run. Other CCHS players making contributions included Abby Bergeron with a hit and a stolen base and Landry with an RBI
Both squads other games were rained out.

Elsewhere, the Berwick Lady Panthers softball squad was unable to participate in the Teurlings Jamboree because it was rained out. The squad also opened its regular season today at noon at Lady Panther Diamond against Ascension Catholic.
As for the Morgan City baseball jamboree, action originally was scheduled for Saturday but had to be pushed back to Sunday because of inclement weather and then had to be rescheduled again for today.
Action began at Tiger Diamond at 9 a.m. between Patterson and Morgan City and continued throughout the morning and early afternoon with games involving Berwick, Hanson Memorial, Assumption, West St. Mary and Franklin.
The last game began at 3 p.m. when Franklin met Morgan City High School.
Also, CCHS’ jamboree game against Central Lafourche in Matthews was moved from Matthews to E.D. White High School in Thibodaux because of the weekend downpour. The game will be played at 1 p.m.
