More power outages hit MC customers

At least twice this morning, the entire city of Morgan City lost electricity. The reason for the first loss, which took place shortly after daybreak, is known, while the reason for the second loss, which took place around 10 a.m., was not available as of press time.
According to city utilities director Bill Cefalu, at the time of the daybreak outage, the city was off the area electricity grid and relying only on power from its own steam plant because Cleco crews had been working on the tie to the outside grid at the Bayou Ramos substation for about 10 minutes.
During that time, the city’s voltage demand fluctuated to levels that were unable to be sustained by the city’s power plant, causing the entire city to lose electricity. When Cleco was notified of the outage, it reconnected the tie, restoring electricity to the city.
Neither Cefalu nor Cleco spokesperson Robyn Cooper responded to requests for further information on either outage before press time.
