Meth Arrest Made Sunday

A Morgan City man was arrested Sunday on an Assumption Parish warrant charging him with operation of a clandestine laboratory and possession of crystal meth and drug paraphernalia.

Lucien Aucoin, 49, of Cecilia Street was arrested at 1:57 p.m. on the warrant after he was located at Duhon By-pass Road in Amelia, St. Mary Parish Sheriff David Naquin said.

He was booked into the Parish Jail and later transferred to Assumption Parish.

Elsewhere, Jorge Cortez, 42, of New Iberia was arrested Monday at 1:26 a.m. and charged with second-offense driving while intoxicated, improper lane use and no driver’s license.

Cortez’s vehicle was stopped after he swerved into a lane of traffic on La. Hwy. 182 in Siracusa and almost hit a sheriff’s deputy.

Upon approaching Cortez, Naquin said the deputy detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage upon Cortez. The deputy also learned that Cortez had no driver’s license.

Cortez failed sobriety testing at the Berwick Police Department and was booked into the Parish Jail where he remained this morning with no bond set.

In other local police news, Rud Gonzalez, 33, of Odelia Lane in Morgan City was arrested Saturday at 6:21 p.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle without lawful presence in the United States and careless operation of a motor vehicle with crash.

He was arrested after Berwick Police received a call about a fender bender on U.S. Hwy. 90 and Thorguson Road, Chief James Richard said.

Gonzalez remained incarcerated this morning with no bond set.
